(C) Communicating with Families

2016 Choir Tour

In March of 2016, I embarked upon my first ever Choir Tour with the Greenleaf Friends Academy Choir. As assistant director, I had many responsibilities, one of which being communication with families about the upcoming tour. This artifact is the packet of information that we used to communicate with familes about the logistics of tour and our expectations of the parents, the students, and even ourselves as educators.

The first document is our commitment letter that goes home to families. The second document is our student packet, the third document is our parent packet, and included in the packet is also the overnight field trip permission form. My cooperating teacher and I sent these documents home with our students and emailed them to parents to ensure that the students received them as well as the parents.

Each of these documents clearly outlines the expectations for everyone involved, and gives important information about each of the places we are visiting or staying at. Because we spent the time talking about these documents in class and communicating with parents, the trip went smoothly. We had no major issues, and none of the parents had any problems with the way we designed the trip. This shows that I am able to effectively communicate with parents and students about important issues and events, a trait that is essential to being an effective teacher.
